DCR Southeastern Massachusetts Adult Walking Club – Spring 2022

Welcome
The DCR Southeastern Massachusetts Adult Walking Club meets most weekends on either a Saturday or Sunday for social recreational walks. Meeting times may vary. Please see descriptions. This club is open to people of 16 years of age and older, and there is no fee to join. Walks average 2 to 5 miles and terrain is varied. New walkers are always welcome.

▲ EASY (mostly level terrain)
▲▲ MODERATE (hilly terrain)
▲▲▲ DIFFICULT (strenuous & steep)

Walks will be led by DCR park staff or a Walking Club volunteer leader.

Sunday, March 6   1:00-3:30pm
Scusset Beach State Reservation ▲▲
A moderate 5-mile hike, one hill and some beach walking. Hike Sagamore Hill for views of Cape Cod Bay, along the Cape Cod Canal to the jetty, along the beach. Meet at the Fish Pier lot at 20 Scusset Beach Rd, Sagamore Beach.

Sunday, March 13   1:00-3:00pm
Borderland State Park ▲▲
4.5-mile moderately paced hike to Bob’s Trail via various trails which are mostly flat. Weather conditions may alter the route. Meet at Visitor Center, 259 Massapoag Ave in North Easton. Parking fee.

Sunday, March 20   10:00-11:30am
Wompatuck State Park ▲▲
Moderate hike, 3.75+ miles over unpaved trails. Hike the “old boot” of Wompatuck. Meet at the Visitor Center at 204 Union Street in Hingham. If there is snow, a paved route may be substituted.

Sunday, March 27   1:00-3:00pm
Blue Hills Reservation ▲▲
Moderate walk with hilly terrain. Walk Wolcott Path to Breakneck Ledge and return via Five Corners Path. Park at Houghton’s Pond main parking lot at 840 Hillside Street in Milton.

Borderland State Park ▲▲
A 5-mile moderately paced hike to the Quarry Loop via various hilly and rocky trails. Meet at Visitor Center, 259 Massapoag Avenue in North Easton. Parking fee.

Sunday, April 10   9:00-11:30am
Massasoit State Park ▲▲
A 5-mile hike taking in the spring scenery surrounding the ponds and wetlands of Massasoit State Park. Meet at the Contact Station in the main parking lot at 1361 Middleboro Avenue in East Taunton.

Sunday, April 17   1:00-2:30pm
Blue Hills Reservation ▲▲
Moderate walk, with some hills, 2.5-miles. Walk around Tucker Hill on the green dot trail. Meet at the Houghton’s Pond main parking lot at 840 Hillside St. in Milton.

Sunday, April 24   1:00-3:00pm
Wompatuck State Park
Moderate hike of 4-miles. Mostly level, rails-to-trails hike over former railroad bed. Trail terrain will vary from packed dirt to pavement. Meet at the Visitor Center at 204 Union St. in Hingham.

Wompatuck State Park ▲▲
Hike to Prospect Hill. This is a moderate hike on unpaved trails, some hills, 4.5 miles. Meet at the Visitor Center at 204 Union Street in Hingham.

Saturday, May 7   10:00am-12:00pm
Quashnet River Trail
2.8-miles, moderately paced. Start on a level wide trail then we’ll cross the river and return on a hilly, narrow trail. Meet at the Quashnet River Trailhead parking lot on Martin Road in Falmouth.

Sunday, May 15   1:00-4:00pm
Borderland State Park ▲▲▲
A 5 to 6-mile moderately paced hike to the Morse Loop via various hilly and rocky trails. Meet at Visitor Center at 259 Massapoag Ave in North Easton. Parking fee.

Sunday, May 22   1:00-2:30pm
South Cape Beach State Park
Explore the 2-mile Great Flat Pond Loop Trail as it winds through coastal woodlands and over boardwalks with views of salt marshes. Meet at the Bayberry Parking Lot in Mashpee. On right past main parking lot for South Cape Beach S.R.

Saturday, May 28   1:00-3:00pm
Blue Hills Reservation ▲▲
Moderate 3.5-mile walk, mostly level. Walk the St. Moritz green dot loop. Meet at 651 Willard Street in Quincy.
