3. A communication was received from D. Margaret Drury, City Clerk, transmitting a report from Councillor Timothy J. Toomey, Jr., Co-Chair of the Ordinance Committee, for a meeting held on November 18, 2004 for the purpose of considering proposed amendments to Chapter 2.74 of the Cambridge Municipal Code, the Police Review and Advisory Board Ordinance. The question comes on passing to be ordained on or after February 14, 2005. [Four sections of the proposed amendment were passed to be ordained as amended. Ordinance #1284. The remaining proposed amendments to chapter 2.74 remain on unfinished business.]

4. A communication was received from D. Margaret Drury, City Clerk, transmitting a report from Councillor Kenneth E. Reeves and Councillor Timothy J. Toomey, Jr., Co-Chairs of the Ordinance Committee, for a meeting held on November 22, 2005 for the purpose of considering a re-filed petition by the Planning Board to amend the zoning in the Concord/Alewife area. The question comes on passing to be ordained on or after January 2, 2006. Petition expires February 20, 2006.

1. That the City Manager conduct a lighting review for the Route 16 area of Alewife Brook Parkway and take all necessary steps, including legal action, to improve crossing safety at this location.   Councillor Galluccio

2. That the City Manager confer with the Commissioner of Public Works and the Police Commissioner regarding noise, loitering and cleanliness in the Riverside neighborhood with particular emphasis on Hoyt Field and schedule a neighborhood meeting with the abutters to take necessary steps to rectify this situation.   Councillor Sullivan

3. That the City Manager is requested to provide the City Council with information on whether there is potential danger to the Walden Street bridge during construction that is taking place in the vicinity of Walden Street and Richdale Avenue.   Councillor Sullivan

WHEREAS: The City Council has requested a liability study for the Route 16 area of Alewife Brook Parkway and Rindge Avenue; and
WHEREAS: The City Manager may have misunderstood this order to ask for an examination of the current lighting at this location as to whether the existing lamps are operable; and
WHEREAS: The existing lighting is apparently inadequate and there are no lighting fixtures along the median strip; and
WHEREAS: This location is heavily traveled and has been the source of many serious pedestrian/vehicular accidents; now therefore be it
ORDERED: That the City Manager be and hereby is requested to conduct a lighting review and to take all necessary actions, including legal action, to improve the lighting and crossing safety at this location.

WHEREAS: The appropriation of this grant was approved by the City Council on February 6, 2006 with the understanding that a Public Safety meeting would be held to discuss community policing; now therefore be it
ORDERED: That the Co-Chairs of the Public Safety Committee schedule a public meeting to discuss Community Policing and said meeting to include the following:  Community Policing Policy; Definition of Community Policing; and Inventory and vision of Community Policing.
