MassDOT will present their plans for the Mass Turnpike (I90) interchange redesign. (Snow date: Jan. 10.) From previous meetings the topics that have been outlined as of most concern to Cambridge are: multimodal transportation, noise, access from Soldiers Field Road and the turnpike, parkland, redesign of the area near BU (the throat), construction mitigation and traffic in the area near River and Western Ave bridges. Melissa Peters from the Community Development Department will be discussing Envision Cambridge the city’s comprehensive planning process to create a shared vision for the community. She will provide an overview of the key planning issues and opportunities guiding the plan’s recommendations related to housing, economy, mobility, urban form, community wellbeing, and environment as well as describe opportunities to get involved.
Currently, the City is looking for feedback on draft goals related to urban form and community wellbeing. A survey can be complete online at https://envisioncambridge.consider.it/ or get a paper copy at the meeting.
Finally, we will continue our discussion of PSNA as an organization, it’s role and goals.

In 2017, the City established a Harvard Square Kiosk and Plaza Working Group, composed of residents, business and property owners, representatives from local institutions, and urban design experts, to create a vision for the future use, operation, and governance of the Harvard Square Kiosk and Plaza.
The Working Group process has involved broad public input, from surveys to Call for Ideas submissions, which has provided a broad range of ideas to inform this process. Based on this community feedback and regular meetings, the Working Group has generated a series of preliminary recommendations for the future of this space in the heart of Harvard Square.
Join us to share your input, reactions, and ideas related to the recommendations. Public feedback will be incorporated into the Working Group’s final recommendations as it seeks to respect the Kiosk’s integrity as an historical icon while enhancing the community-focused aspects of the surrounding Plaza. The City of Cambridge acquired (by eminent domain) the property located at Vail Court off Bishop Allen Drive. Presently there are no occupants in the building(s). As part of the eminent domain process, the City recommended redeveloping the site for affordable housing. Due to its condition, the City plans to demolish the buildings that currently exist on the site. Due to the delay caused by the litigation, the City needed to re-bid the contract to hire a new contractor for work at the property. On Thursday, May 24 at 6:00pm, the City will hold a public meeting in the Sullivan Chamber at City Hall to provide project updates, introduce the contractor selected for abatement, demolition and site work activities that are planned, and to share available details regarding the abatement and demolition process and schedule.
