11:30am Robert W. Healy Public Safety Building Dedication (125 Sixth Street)
The City of Cambridge will host a dedication ceremony for the Robert W. Healy Public Safety Facility. This building is named in honor of City Manager Robert W. Healy for his dedicated service to the City of Cambridge since 1974. Construction build-out of the 110,000 square foot building that houses the Cambridge Police Department and the city’s Emergency Communications/911 Call Center incorporated green building technologies into the design. This included installation of highly efficient mechanical and electrical systems with chilled beam heating and cooling technology, a green roof system, a highly advanced security system design and building management/lighting control systems. It is anticipated that the design of this building will result in a U.S. Green Building Council LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) Silver level certification.

The Cambridge Bike Committee and the Cambridge Historical Society invite you on
a fun fall bike tour of Cambridge on Sunday, October 4. The 10.5 mile route will
highlight events associated with national movements that had Cambridge political
roots, starting with the American Revolution and including the temperance
movement, anti-war protests, up to late twentieth century campaigns for
controlled development. There will be several stops along the way for brief

Saturday, October 10: 7th Annual Middlesex Canal Historic Ride (2009), co-sponsored by the Somerville Historic Preservation Commission, the Middlesex Canal Commission, and the Middlesex Canal Association. Meet at Sullivan Square T station (the the right of the main entrance, by the historic canal plaque) at 9:00am. We will follow the route of the old Middlesex Canal (1793-1853) to Lowell, with lots of stops along the way to see remnants of the canal, including some restored sections and the home of the canal's designer, Loammi Baldwin). We will get to Lowell in time to take the train back to Boston. 38 miles (but riders can also catch earlier trains at 20 miles in Wilmington or at 28 miles in North Billerica). The ride will be led by Dick Bauer of the Somerville Historic Preservation Commission and the Middlesex Canal Commission and Robert Winters of the Middlesex Canal Association. The Cambridge Ward 9 Democratic Committee and the Cambridge Democratic City Committee are sponsoring 2009 Meet the City Council Candidates Night and we encourage as many of you to attend as possible. There are 21 candidates this election cycle and we as active democrats need to make sure our voices our being represented in city government.
This forum will use small group discussions with candidates, similar to formal networking or speed-dating. A group of voters, our hope is around ten per table, will engage in a half-hour discussion with two to three candidates. After the first half-hour candidates will move to other tables and a new discussion will begin. After the second half-hour candidates will move again for a third discussion.
Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the program will start at 6:00 and end at 8:00. Participants will be invited to then adjourn to Guido’s Bar and Grill at 13 Belmont Street where hopefully people will continue discussions they had during the forum.
(Come by car, or take the 72 or 75 bus that run frequently from the Harvard Square T up Concord, down Huron, past Fresh Pond, to the corner of Aberdeen and Huron. It's about a 4 minute walk from there).

9:30am Tour de Graves. A MassBike trip to some of the Boston area's famous and lesser-known graveyards in honor of Halloween. Trip leaves at 9:30am in order to avoid the majority of ghosts, and will be about 18-20 miles and take about 4 hours. Steady rain cancels. Appropriate costumes are encouraged for this ride!
Where: We will meet at the Old Cambridge Burying Ground at the corner of Garden Street and Mass Ave in Harvard Square, and make stops at the following burying grounds and cemeteries: King's Chapel, Granary, Central, South End, Eliot, Evergreen, Market Street, and Cambridge. At the end of the ride, we will get to explore Mt. Auburn Cemetery. Mt. Auburn does not allow bike riding. Bring a lock so you can leave your bike at the gate.
